What is Ultrasound?
  • Ultrasound imaging, also called ultrasound scanning or sonography, obtains images from inside the human body through the use of high-frequency sound waves. The reflected sound wave echoes are recorded and displayed as real-time visual images. Radiation is not used in ultrasound imaging. Ultrasound images are captured in real time, showing the structure and the function of the body’s internal organs, as well as blood flow. Ultrasound is a useful way of examining the body’s internal organs. Our ultrasound unit performs a wide range of exams including abdominal and obstetrical studies. Ultrasound may also be used to guide a breast biopsy procedure. That procedure is known as an ultrasound-guided breast biopsy procedure.
